Did u know how many newborns need immunization every year? Every year 4.7 million Indonesian children need immunization against deadly diseases like measles, polio, hepatitis and diphtheria. Without it, thousands will die, and many more will be left permanently disabled or scarred.
With US$ 2.5 million that UNICEF is trying to raise to support Indonesia’s immunization programme, every Indonesian infant could be vaccinated against the seven deadly childhood diseases: measles, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, tuberculosis and hepatitis B. That’s why UNICEF is bringing together some of Indonesia’s biggest companies and celebrities to launch the largest fundraising drive of its kind ever held in this country. Using radio networks, SMS, television and the internet, UNICEF will reach out to people across Indonesia to enlist their help in the fight against life-threatening disease. Please Donate Now or Transfer to UNICEF’s bank accounts: BCA 035-311-2888 Citibank 0-103319-005 Your contribution Rp 100,000,- helps UNICEF to ensure 16 babies are fully immunized with BCG, D-P-T, Hepatitis B, Polio and Measles. Immunization is the easiest and most effective way of preventing childhood death and disability, yet more than 40 per cent of Indonesian children have not received complete coverage. Because of this, measles kills an estimated 30,000 children each year, hepatitis affects up to 20 per cent of children in some parts of the country, and in 2005 hundreds of children were struck with polio for the first time in over a decade. If we do not reach these children, Indonesia is at serious risk of disease epidemics in the future. In addition to claiming thousands of lives, these epidemics would put a massive strain on the nation’s economy. A polio outbreak would cost an estimated US$60 million, while a measles epidemic would cost more than US$30 million.
